When Kate Whiddon and her boyfriend first saw their 4 years old son walk, they broke down in tears.
Although it might seem a little late for a youngster to walk at the age of four, this situation is unique because Katie’s son was born without arms or legs.
When Katie went to the doctor for an ultrasound at only 18 weeks pregnant, she received some heartbreaking news.
Camden, her son, was identified as having phocomelia, a congenital abnormality in which the affected person does not grow an arm, leg, or occasionally multiple limbs.
After receiving the diagnosis, A mother of three Katie was concerned that her kid would find it difficult to carry out even the most basic chores in life.
“I initially assumed he would just be a vegetable when I learned he wouldn’t have arms or legs.” the mother told People.
“I was just turning 19 and I was unsure of my ability to meet his standards.“
Despite her worries, it turned out that Camden was a brave and admirable young kid. Nothing in this world could stop him from moving on.
She recalled, “I had him lying on my bed when he was around two months old. I noticed him out of the corner of my eye and he was banging the toys with his arms.“
“I broke down in tears because I was so relieved that he would be able to accomplish his goals.”
Camden was caught on camera taking his first steps, and the video instantly went viral online. In it, Cole Greene, Katie’s boyfriend is shown with Camden standing in front of him. Cole urges the cute youngster to start walking while his sister beams in the distance.
In the video, a happy Camden can be heard saying, “I’m coming to you.” “I’m on my feet!”
Camden moves cautiously in the direction of Greene and Ryleigh, his 3 year old sister.
It’s an amazing moment that shows Camden can and will overcome any challenge in his way.
Whiddon tells people, “We began to cry because it made us so proud.”
“I had no idea when that day would arrive. I was surprised and overjoyed because I didn’t think he was prepared for it yet. Ryleigh, [his sister], was over there leaping in excitement because it was so amazing.”
The first journey of Camden has definitely captivated people’s interest all over the world. Whiddon believes her son is destined for big things and the video has received thousands of views and shares.
“Call it mother’s instinct, but I have this feeling that he’s going to be one of those inspirational speakers, and now that you’ve given him an opportunity, you’ve given him a platform so that when he’s ready to speak for himself, he’ll have people who actually want to listen to him and care about what he has to say,” the author says.
There can be no doubt that Camden serves as an inspiration. Why can’t we all succeed if this boy can overcome the obstacles placed in our way?
