Josh and Miranda wanted to have a lot of kids when they first started dating.
However, the professional nurses’ struggle to conceive was caused by a variety of factors. Through IVF, they were blessed with a baby girl named Joslyn.
Miranda tried IVF once more after a year because she wanted more children. The couple found out six weeks later that they were having twins.
However, a particular set of news that no one could have anticipated came four days later.
Both the doctor and I were shocked, Miranda stated. That had never occurred in her entire career.
Miranda turned out to be carrying quadruplets during her pregnancy. Even more shocking was the fact that they weren’t just quadruplets, rather they were two sets of identical twins, each consisting of two boys and two girls who were all born at the same time. Since both sets had the same embryo, they shared the same DNA.
The couple’s doctor confirms that it is extremely unusual for a miraculous conception.
“About one in 100 embryo transfers result in embryo cleavage. This outcome is about one in 10,000 possible. Natural fertilization also has the potential to occur, but the likelihood is much lower,” Dr. James Grifo stated.
However, Miranda and Josh were concerned about the possibility of giving birth to four healthy children, despite the doctors’ amazement at the unlikely pregnancy. Miranda’s fear of miscarriage made pregnancy a frightening experience.
Miranda states, “I was always thinking I could go into premature labor at any time.” She adds, “I wasn’t sure if I was going to miscarry.”
Josh explained to ABC News, “We took it day by day.”
Miranda finally gave birth to their four children on February 4, 2011: Jackson, James, Madison, and Mia Six weeks early, they were born.
The couple was offered the option of terminating some of the fetuses by the doctors, but despite the high risks associated with pregnancy, they decided to give birth to all four of their miracle babies.
Jackson and James were twin boys, and Mia and Madison were twin girls. The seven person family is close-knit and content and the twins had a happy childhood.
