The actress from “Lovely,” who found out she has stage 4 breast cancer in February 2020, said, “I’m trying to be strong, but I’m afraid.”

Shannen Doherty shared with her fans about her health challenges. The actress, who found out she has stage 4 breast cancer in February 2020, posted a video on Instagram before having surgery to remove a brain tumor.

On January 16, 2023, I had surgery to do a biopsy and remove a tumor from my head. The 52-year-old actress shared a photo, saying, “I’m trying to be brave, but I’m scared. Fear overcame me.”

Last week on Instagram, she revealed that a CT scan on January 5 showed she has brain metastases, which is when cancer cells move from their original place to the brain, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Doherty wrote on Instagram after getting radiation treatment: “On January 12th, the first beam. I’m sorry; it’s obvious. I’ve been through a lot, and I’m very claustrophobic.”

She added, “The doctor, Amin Mirahdi, and Cedar, the technicians from Sinai, are great. But it can also seem like cancer. It’s a time of fear, confusion, everything.”

Doherty shared a health update at the Charmed panel during 90s Con in March. When asked about how she was feeling, she replied, “I feel good. Thank you! This audience is amazing.”

The event was hosted by Brenn L. Heldman and featured stars like Rose McGowan, Holly Marie Combs, Brian Krause, Dorian Gregory, and Drew Fuller.

Since finding out about her breast cancer in 2015 and revealing in 2017 that it went away and came back, Doherty has often shared updates on her treatment.

“Is everything beautiful? No, but it’s real. I hope by sharing this, we can all learn more about and understand what cancer is like,” she posted on Instagram in October 2021. “I want to motivate people to have mammograms and regular checkups. Face your fears and confront what’s in front of you—I want to encourage that.”

“I’m scared of all the possible bad outcomes. I’m worried about leaving my mother and how it will affect her. I’m also afraid I won’t recognize myself after the surgery. This is what cancer looks like.”
