I Am Grateful for the Simple Things

A lot of the time, when most of us are asked what we are grateful for, list the big things.

We are most likely to mention our jobs, houses, relationships, finances, and properties.

Many a time, we forget to mention the little yet important things in our lives.

I always thought that it was the big things that mattered. I have always been quick to mention the bug things in my life as the things I was grateful for.

Life has, however, taught me differently. Life has taught me to be grateful for simple things.

These are the things we usually take for granted. They are always there, a part of our day-to-day lives.

They are as normal and as regular as anything. Yes, these simple things that are so normal we overlook them are very important to our lives.

The beautiful thing about these little things is that we always expect them to be there. Some of them are seasonal, and we have gotten used to expecting them to be there in our lives.

We have gotten so used to them that we do not even remember that they are there. They had blended so perfectly with the fabric of our lives, and so they no longer stand out.

Yet, our lives can actually be overturned if any one of these little things is missing.

So little, yet so vital to the very core of our existence.

We could dare to take them for granted, but cannot dare to imagine life without them.

The little yet powerful thing I am grateful for.

I am grateful for the sight, smell, and sound of falling leaves. The sight that signals the coming of fall. When all the leaves turn golden brown, and the air is just right. You will never know how important that sight is until you do not see it again.

The sound of the leaves crunching under my feet while I jog gives me a sense of peace, normalcy, and belonging. I am grateful for it.

I am grateful for a cozy fire on a cold day.

The crackling sound the fire makes, the slight smokey yet toasty feeling in the air, the smell of the wood, especially when it is a Yule log, all of these come together to give an indescribable feeling of contentment, joy, and peace.

I am grateful for good friends. Friends who take you as you are and love you despite your flaws and mistakes. Good friends who are there every moment. It doesn’t matter the distance between all of you; they are always there for the big things and the small things.

I have been blessed to have met friends kike this over the course of my life, and I am grateful for every one of them.

Finally, I am grateful for cute boots. There is something about wearing cute, comfortable boots that makes everything okay.

These are some of the little things I am grateful for.
