When they were told to leave their home on Monday, a family from Rotherham will be left homeless.
Due to unpaid rent, Amy Winter and Joshua Thain, their three children, and their house in Brunswick Street, Thurnscoe, over due rent.
After months of not paying rent, a judge ordered the family to leave the house on January 31, but Amy and Joshua claim Barnsley Council is aware of the situation and has not assisted. Joshua, 27, and Amy, 26, are both on Universal Credit and share a home with Sky 5 years old, Daisy-Mae 4 years old, and Lex is 18 months. Macauli, who is nine years old and lives with Amy’s mother, Amy is currently five months pregnant, and the couple have a fourth child. According to Amy to the Huddersfield Examiner: “We don’t go anywhere or do anything because it’s so miserable. I asked my family for assistance, but since they only live in a one-bedroom, two-bedroom house, they are unable to provide housing. The one in particular who attempts to help is my accomplice’s uncle, yet he lives in Somerset.
“Instead of repeatedly informing us of their plans, Barnsley Council ought to open up and communicate with us.”
The lease was signed in Joshua’s late mother’s name, and Sanctuary Housing owns the property. Victoria Robertshaw 45 years old, who received a positive Covid-19 test and passed away in August.
