The oldest son answered his father quietly, “School was okay, Dad… but Mom’s friend visited again.”
The atmosphere in the room immediately changed.
His mother froze, almost dropping the spoon in her hand. Her husband slowly looked at her and asked, “What friend?”
The younger daughter innocently replied, “The same man who came here this afternoon while you were at work.”
The husband’s face went pale. He looked at his wife, expecting an explanation, but she remained speechless. The children lowered their eyes as they began to understand that something was seriously wrong.
After several moments of silence, the husband stood up and walked out onto the porch. His wife followed him, tears streaming down her face.
“I never meant to hurt you,” she said softly.
He let out a deep sigh. “Then why did you?”
With tears in her eyes, she finally confessed that she had married him because she wanted stability, not because she truly loved him. As the years passed, she became lonely and felt trapped in the marriage.
But seeing the sadness and confusion on her children’s faces made her realize how deeply her choices had affected the entire family.
That night, no one was able to sleep peacefully.
The following morning, the father sat down with his children and gently reassured them, “Whatever happens between your mother and me, always remember that I will love you.”
Several months later, the couple decided to separate peacefully. It was a difficult experience for everyone, but the children learned a powerful lesson: you can hide a secret for a while, but sooner or later, the truth will come to light.
