When contemplating our military, the initial thought that probably arises is how these courageous individuals put their lives on the line for the betterment of our nation.
However, there is another aspect of this narrative frequently overlooked.
Behind these soldiers, there lie lives, homes, and families they are separated from for extended periods. The strain is immense on both ends, yet military families find ways to persevere.
For Bridget Stevens, a military wife, this tale hits incredibly close to home.
During a cold winter in her Pennsylvania residence, a malfunctioning heater left her and her children shivering.
Despite facing financial constraints, she had no alternative but to reach out to Betlyn’s Heating and Cooling for assistance in resolving the issue.
Following unsuccessful attempts to troubleshoot the problem over the phone, none of the solutions seemed to work. Consequently, Paul, the owner of the company, informed the distressed mother that he would personally come to repair her heater. Upon his arrival, Bridget mentioned that her husband typically assists with household repairs.
However, the underlying issue was that her husband was away on deployment.
After completing the repairs, Bridget felt reluctant to examine the bill. However, when she finally did, she was astonishingly taken aback.
The invoice displayed the following message, “No heat evening call. Deployment discount $1.00,” which left her pleasantly surprised.
Paul declined to accept any payment and merely asked Bridget to convey her gratitude to her husband for his service.
Bridget shared her experience on Facebook, and her post stated:

“I want to take a moment to express my appreciation for Betlyn Heating and Cooling. When I returned home with my boys, we found ourselves in a freezing house with the temperature at 50 degrees. Upon calling Betlyn’s, I half-expected to reach an answering machine and leave a message, while rushing to buy space heaters from the store.
However, to my surprise, Paul, the owner, personally answered the call and patiently guided me through various troubleshooting steps to try and restart the furnace. Unfortunately, none of the methods worked, and he determined that he needed to come to our house to fix it.”
“While working on the furnace, we engaged in conversation about Bobby and his deployment. I casually mentioned that I had attempted to troubleshoot the issue with my husband, but since he’s currently deployed and unable to see it, he wouldn’t know how to fix it.
After completing the repairs, I was a bit hesitant about the total cost. However, he handed me the receipt seen in the attached photo. When I tried to offer him some money, he chuckled and said the $1 was just a joke, asking me to express gratitude to my husband for his service.
Therefore, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Paul Betlyn. Thanks to him, my house is now warm and cozy.”
Through the efforts of patriotic individuals sharing her narrative, this message has gone on to ignite numerous other acts of kindness.
