At some point in their lives, approximately one in five couples experience difficulties conceiving.
For some, this is a very troublesome and upsetting time – however as others verify, persistence and assurance can pay off.
Before turning to IVF, Desiree and Ryan Fortin waited patiently for many years. In an effort to conceive, they prayed to God.
They finally learned that Desiree was pregnant shortly after the IVF treatment. However, they could never have anticipated what lay within her womb.
Desiree and Ryan Fortin, college sweethearts, have been happily married since 2009, but something was off: they struggled to conceive for a long time.
Desiree was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, hypothyroidism, and low progesterone by doctors, so she and her husband tried for three long difficult years before deciding to use in vitro fertilization (IVF).
On the other hand Desiree experienced recurrent periods rather than positive pregnancy tests. It was mentally demanding work.
She wrote about those trying years, “It wasn’t just that I couldn’t get pregnant.”
I shed more tears than I ever imagined about infertility. I sat in silence on the floor of my bathroom after numerous failed pregnancy tests. I had to endure injections, bruises, and a variety of drugs because I was infertile and seeking assistance with fertility treatment. It is costly as well as mentally, emotionally, and physically taxing.
So you can imagine how thrilled Ryan and Desiree were to learn that their first IVF treatment had succeeded.
They couldn’t believe that not one but three babies were growing when they saw the ultrasound! The couple turned out to be having triplets—talk about success!
But Desiree and her family are still fighting.
She got pregnant later, but doctors told her she wouldn’t be able to give birth to all three babies.
She recalled telling me, “I was too short, too skinny, and it was my first pregnancy.” However, my wounds proved him wrong.”
In the summer of 2015, the Fortin triplets were born. At three weeks and one day, Desiree was delivered via C-section.
The arrival of Sawyer, Jack, and Charlize, each weighing more than 5 pounds, thrilled the couple.
My due date is never forgotten by me. There were unexpected turns, as there are with parenting in general. “I was sent to recovery after the triplets were born, and Ryan went to the NICU with them,” Desiree told Today.
Desiree needed emergency surgery because of complications and bleeding, which prevented her from seeing her precious children right away.
However, the new mom was able to witness her miracles when Ryan FaceTimed her. All three babies were able to leave the NICU after two weeks and start their lives at home.
Ryan and Desiree received a significant present when they returned home with three babies.
We are fortunate, but being a parent is hard work and comes with the greatest responsibility: taking care of young children. Three times, our babies have severe reflux and colic. Maintaining a relationship in the midst of crying babies, sleepless nights, and a new routine is difficult,” stated Desiree.
Today marks the seventh birthday of the triplets, and the whole family appears to be doing well.
Desiree has 150,000 followers on her Instagram page, where you can follow their life and adventures.
I had no idea that God would reach so many people through our story. She claims that it was an incredible experience.
She also said there that Ryan and she are expecting again! This lovely family will be soon six!
Desiree, thank you for sharing your life and story; I sincerely hope it will be of assistance to other couples experiencing infertility!
