New wave of coronavirus spreads – health officials warn as number of cases goes up.

Since the beginning of January, the number of people getting sick from the coronavirus has doubled, making experts warn the public.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) says that by the week ending Sunday, April 6, the percentage of positive COVID tests went up from 4.2% to 4.5%. In England, 7% more people tested positive. At the beginning of the year, the rate was lower at 2.2%.

The UK Health Security Agency said that people who got the COVID-19 vaccine were over 40% less likely to end up in the hospital than those who didn’t get the shot.

Dr. Wylie explained that changes in seasons and spending more time indoors with others can help the virus spread, just like with colds or the flu. Common symptoms are a sore throat, cough, stuffy nose, tiredness, and sometimes a fever or loss of taste or smell, although losing taste or smell doesn’t happen as often now.

Around 7.5 million people in England can get the NHS spring booster vaccine, available from April 1 to June 17.

Dr. Wylie has warned those most at risk, including the unvaccinated, people with weakened immune systems, and those aged 75 and older.
