While we might come across bugs in our homes sometimes, there are certain ones most of us don’t want around.
If you live in the countryside, you’re probably used to dealing with flies, ants, spiders, and similar bugs trying to move into your home, especially during summer and beyond.
Some folks don’t mind bugs showing up every year; others aren’t so chill about it. I’m okay with spiders making webs in corners, and a few flies in the kitchen won’t bother me much.
You’ve probably seen an earwig in your house before, even if you didn’t know what it was. Despite their scary appearance, they don’t actually sting or bite and are harmless.
However, most people don’t like having a bunch of earwigs in their home. I definitely don’t, which is why I found a helpful trick for dealing with them.
A Facebook user named Alicia Alexander shared a method she used to get rid of earwigs, and I think it might help others too.
Alicia suggests putting half a cup of olive oil in a shallow bowl and leaving it in your backyard or on your deck to catch earwigs.
The picture below supposedly shows how many earwigs Alicia caught in less than a day.
And here’s the bowl again after 36 hours..
Earwigs seem to like the sweet smell of olive oil, but once they crawl into the bowl, they can’t get out. If you have lots of earwigs at home, this could be a great way to solve the problem!
What they mean
We don’t want to scare you, but if you see lots of earwigs in your home, it might mean there’s rotting wood around. Earwigs like to hang out where wood is decaying, so check any wooden stuff in your house.
However, if earwigs come inside seeking warmth, there’s no need to worry. It’s normal, and they won’t bother you much.
