I thought it was only rice, but it turned out to be something far worse.

I woke up and saw some weird white grains on my bed. At first, I thought my husband had eaten in bed again and dropped rice. I was about to brush them off, but then I looked closer. The more I stared, the more uneasy I felt. The “grains” were small, oval, and shiny… and then I noticed one of them moving.

I was filled with fear. I quickly grabbed my phone and searched online. My heart dropped when I found out what it really was… If you ever see something like this at home, be careful. (More details in the first comment.)

They turned out to be bedbug eggs.
Here’s what I learned:

  • Bedbug eggs are tiny, about 1 mm in size.
  • They are white, oval, and shiny, looking a lot like rice grains.
  • Female bedbugs hide them in places like mattress seams, behind baseboards, and inside furniture cracks.

After 6–10 days, tiny bugs hatch from the eggs and start feeding on blood. Bedbugs don’t usually spread diseases, but their bites can cause itching, rashes, allergies, and even sleepless nights.

Where they come from:

  • They can hitch a ride in your suitcase after traveling.
  • They can come with secondhand furniture or clothes.
  • They may even crawl in from neighbors through vents or wall cracks.

How to get rid of them:

  • Do a thorough cleaning and vacuum all cracks, seams, and corners.
  • Wash bedding and clothes in hot water (at least 60 °C).
  • Use a steam cleaner on mattresses and furniture.
  • Call professional pest control, or else the bedbugs might come back.

Now I realize — if I hadn’t noticed those “grains” today, I could’ve had a whole army of bedbugs in my house within a week.
