After his father died, a man felt he could no longer take care of his mother, so he placed her in a nursing home. She was unhappy there, and he only visited her once in a while.
One day, he received a call saying his mother’s health had gotten worse. She was very weak and seemed close to death.
The son rushed to the nursing home and went to her room. With tears in his eyes, he asked if there was anything he could do for her.
His mother looked at him and said she had a few requests. He promised to do whatever she asked.
She told him the fans were broken and made it hard for her to breathe. She also said the refrigerator was old, and sometimes she went to sleep hungry because the food had spoiled.
The son was shocked and asked why she never told him these things before.
The mother replied that she knew she was dying, but she was thinking about him. She said that one day his own children might not want to take care of him and might place him in a nursing home too. Then he would understand. She reminded him that how we treat others is how we will be treated.
