No matter how much we try, we’ll never find a friend more loyal and loving than a dog—especially during hard times. The saying “dogs are man’s best friend” has proven true many times, and this story shows why.
Officer Cory Masterson was chasing criminals with his dog when he was attacked and hit on the head in the woods. He collapsed and began to lose consciousness.
At that moment, his dog partner, Reno, ran into the woods. When he got there, he saw one of the criminals about to stab the helpless Cory with a knife.

Reno bit the man’s arm just below the elbow and, even though he got hurt, he didn’t let go.
Eventually, the man broke free and ran deeper into the woods.
When Reno got back to Cory, he heard sirens—it was another police car from the chase.
Reno led two officers to where Cory was lying.
Cory was quickly taken to the hospital, and Reno stayed with one of the officers.
The next morning, Reno waited by the car, wanting to go see his partner.
Sadly, Cory had a serious skull injury that caused internal bleeding, and he fell into a coma.
Reno wasn’t allowed into the ICU, so he waited outside the emergency room until an officer took him home.

About three months later, Cory was still in a coma, so he was brought home with a nurse who cared for him all day and night. Reno was there too. He found a spot next to Cory and stayed by his side all the time.
Then one Thursday night, something amazing happened. Reno sensed that something was different with Cory. He ran to the nurse’s room and scratched at the door to get her attention.
The nurse understood Reno was trying to tell her something, so she followed him. When she looked at Cory, she saw his fingers moving.
Slowly, Cory began to recover. He started talking again and learning how to walk, even though he was still very weak.

One night, Cory woke up and tried to go to the bathroom, with Reno, as always, following him. But Reno could tell something was wrong.
Cory’s jaw tightened, his eyes went wide, and then he suddenly collapsed and couldn’t move.
Reno ran to the nurse’s door, scratching and barking loudly. As soon as he heard the nurse moving, he ran back to Cory. By then, Cory had foam around his mouth.
The nurse checked his pulse, gently turned him onto his side, and put a pillow under his head. Then she called for help, and the medics quickly arrived at the house.

The medics gave Cory CPR, but it seemed like he didn’t make it. Still, Reno refused to believe his friend was gone. He barked and growled, not letting the doctors get close to Cory’s body.
Because of Reno’s behavior, the police were called, and the doctor asked for the dog to be taken outside.
But just a few minutes later, they heard someone coughing.
Cory was alive after all.

The next day, Cory’s department released a statement saying that doctors were shocked to witness the “Lazarus effect” in him—a rare and mysterious event where someone’s heart starts beating again after CPR has already stopped.
While everyone else had lost hope, Reno hadn’t. He refused to believe his friend was gone. Somehow, he sensed a sign of life that even the doctors missed.
