It’s Halloween time—a season for fun, scares, and some spooky vibes. We expect to see scary decorations all around, and it’s not time for the happy holiday season yet.
But just because Halloween is coming up doesn’t mean we can’t be kind. One Halloween lover shared this message in a TikTok video that has become very popular.
Salena Webb loves Halloween. She’s a mother of four from South Carolina and, like many people, she decorates her yard for the holiday. She set up a graveyard scene in her front yard with ghosts, spiderwebs, pumpkins, a witch, tombstones, and skeletons carrying a casket. It took her a lot of time to set it all up. However, when her neighbor asked her to take down some decorations, she agreed.
The neighbor asked her to remove some items to make things easier for his elderly father.
Salena posted a TikTok video showing the moment her neighbor came to make the request. In the video, the neighbor says, “Hey, I know you’re celebrating Halloween. My dad just found out he has lung cancer, and he thinks the decorations are a bit scary.” He then points to the graveyard scene and asks, “Could you take out just the casket?”
Salena immediately felt sorry for him. Since her neighbor’s dad often spends time in the garage facing her yard, she understood why it was important to remove the casket. “I didn’t want to remind him of what could happen if he doesn’t beat cancer,” she told Insider. “I didn’t want to add stress to someone else’s life.”
Salena took down the casket and gave the skeletons badminton rackets instead. She moved the scarier decorations to her backyard. “I was a bit sad at first,” Salena wrote in her TikTok caption, “but I realized that removing the casket wouldn’t hurt me, but it might help my neighbor feel better during this tough time. Kindness is free, and compassion is important.”
Many people praised Salena for being kind. She posted the video and asked her followers what they would have done in her place. While some said they wouldn’t have taken down their decorations, many others admired Salena for her compassion.
“Now this is what being a good neighbor is all about. Kindness doesn’t cost anything. Thank you!” one user commented.
Another person said, “This was beautifully handled. The world needs more people like you! God bless you!”
Salena’s neighbor also appreciated her kindness. After she took down the casket, she brought him a card and some balloons. Even though they didn’t speak the same language, she could see he was grateful. He told her, “You’re good people.”
