Last Friday, Parveen Kaswan, who works to protect forests and wildlife in India, shared a video showing Indian elephants holding a ceremony that looks similar to how humans mourn, for a baby elephant.
Kaswan’s video became very popular as surprised people on social media shared their amazement and sympathy for the elephants.
The video, shared on Twitter, depicts an elephant coming out of bushes carrying a dead baby elephant in its trunk.
The big elephant lay down next to the baby elephant’s body and protected it while waiting for more elephants to come. Then, more elephants came in a line, like a funeral march, and surrounded the baby elephant.
After that, the first elephant picked up the baby again, and the others followed behind.
The Twitter post got shared over 5,000 times and received more than 12,000 likes.
People have seen elephants feeling sad about their dead before, kind of like how humans do.
We thought this video was moving. How does it make you feel? Share your thoughts in the comments!
