The Medal of Honor is Awarded to Brave Marines who Leap on a Grenade to Save their Fellow Soldiers.

Carpenter, William Kyle You may or may not be familiar with his name, but you can never deny that he is a recognized American hero.

At the age of 21, Kyle was commissioned as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps. In 2010, he was sent to war in Afghanistan.

Kyle’s uncontrollable strength was highlighted by a split-second decision that ultimately altered his life forever. To save his friend, Kyle jumped on the grenade and used his body as a shield.

To save his Marines, he risked his life.

Naturally, the subsequent explosion caused him to sustain devastating injuries. Shrapnel was all over his body, and the bones in his face and skull were broken. In addition, Kyle lost a portion of his jaw, one of his lungs collapsed, and when he returned to Camp Bastion, he was given the P.E.A. (patient expired on arrival) designation.

Actually, Kyle was dead. He managed to survive.

Kyle needed forty different surgeries over the next two years. President Barack Obama presented him with the prestigious Medal of Honor and the Purple Heart for bravery.

Kyle is now retired from the military and pursuing a degree at the University of South Carolina.
