Kids with special needs

Kids with special needs are not weird or odd. They only want what everyone else wants… to be accepted!

When I was still in college, during one of my internship days I was assigned to be in charge of the special units.

The special units consisted of people who were either deaf, dumb, blind, lame, or had one disability or the other; the section I handled were made up of children.

It was during those moments of my life that helped see life from another perspective. These kids were beautiful and they saw the world from another perspective we never imagined.

Their disability didn’t make them less human, all they even wanted was to be accepted and treated like everyone else.

During one of the days I was asked to serve their meals especially to the blind kids; I was on the verge of shedding tears because their condition didn’t make them less human or less happy.

They felt my presence each time I entered their rooms and one couldn’t fail to tell me each day that I am a beautiful young woman.

I was depressed because of the family crisis I was facing at that moment, but this particular child always has her way of bringing smiles to my face.

I always made out time to sit and talk to her about all my problems; she was way younger, but I felt comfortable around her and she didn’t let her condition stop her from smiling and trying to live like everyone else.

She has the special ability to sense the mood of people through their voices and by touching their hands; it was at those moments I knew she was indeed a special child and her limitations won’t stop her from exploring the world and a great person.
