A short walk, some bread, and a reminder to be kind

One sunny afternoon, I went to pick up my 3-year-old daughter from daycare. As we walked home, we passed a small store. She held my hand and excitedly asked, “Daddy, do we need bread? Let’s buy some.”

I smiled, thinking she just wanted bread to eat. “Okay, sweetheart,” I said.

We went inside, chose a warm loaf, and paid for it. I thought she wanted it for a snack at home. But the moment we stepped outside, she looked up at me and said happily, “Great! Now we can feed the birds in the park!”

My heart melted. I was thinking about what we needed, but she was thinking about helping the little birds she liked watching. She didn’t want the bread for herself — she wanted to share it.

We went to the park, and she laughed as the birds gathered and ate the crumbs she gave them.

That day, my daughter taught me something important: kindness means thinking of others, even small animals, and making the world better with simple, caring actions.
