Quiet sounds from under the bed: A young child needing help

One evening, the police got a call from a scared five-year-old girl named Mia. In a shaky voice, she whispered, “Please… can you come? Someone’s under the bed. I’m scared.”

Her parents saw her on the phone and told the police she was just pretending. “You know how kids are,” her mom said. But the person on the phone wasn’t sure. Mia sounded really afraid, and maybe she just needed someone besides her parents to make her feel safe.

Soon, two police officers arrived at Mia’s house in the suburbs.

Mia, holding her teddy bear tightly, took them to her room. They looked under her bed and only saw old toys and dust. One officer smiled and was about to leave, but the other one raised his hand to stop—he had heard something.

There was a soft scraping sound coming from under the floor. It was real—Mia wasn’t just imagining it.

The officers felt something was wrong, so they checked the floor more closely. One knocked near the bed, and the sound was hollow. They went to the garage, got tools, and started lifting the floorboards.

Underneath, they saw the dirt had been recently moved.

As they dug carefully, they found a metal door.
It led to a small tunnel under the neighborhood.
The officers called for help, and soon, the area was full of more police and detectives.

The police soon found three escaped prisoners hiding in the tunnel. They were dirty, tired, and had been digging quietly for days to avoid getting caught. But they weren’t quiet enough—Mia had heard them.

Thanks to Mia’s sharp instincts, the escape was stopped. The men were arrested, and the tunnel was closed.

That night, after everything was over, Mia was finally able to sleep. She was happy someone listened to her, even though her parents thought she was just pretending.
