Be careful with your words

Have you ever thought of the strongest part of a human’s body? A region that can bring even the mighty to their knees and make them drown in tears.

The tongue is the strongest part of the body. It has no bones, but it can break a heart.

Be careful about your choice of words and how you talk to people. The tongue can be a lifesaver and a killer at the same time.

I have seen people who almost committed suicide because of what people told them. In my second year in high school, there was this girl that’s always talked about and body shamed. She was called fat Annie, and people always laughed at her and will always remind her of how ugly she is for being fat.

On this particular day of school, I noticed she was so gloomy and looking pale. I saw she never looked at anyone who threw shade on her throughout the day; she was writing. When it was close to school dismissal, she finally dropped her pen, closed the book, smiled, and walked out of the class.

Curiosity led me to check what she has been writing since. It was a suicide letter. I followed suit towards the direction she followed. Luckily I was able to hold her before she jumped off the school upstairs.

She wanted to free herself, and I held her still, she was crying in my arms. She said she was tired of being ridiculed both at home and in school by everyone. She wanted to end it as the words everyone ever told her seems to be traumatizing her.

Be careful about what you tell people; not everyone can bear the impact of hurtful words, instead of speaking bitterly why not talk in the language of love and care.
