Grandma’s last picture of her granddaughter.

A grandmother took a final photo of her granddaughter just before a tragic accident.

Three-year-old Scarlett Jensen lost her life in a hit-and-run on October 7, 2022. She and her two-year-old brother, Henry, were with their grandmother in Oldtown, Idaho, when a speeding Chevy Tahoe came down their driveway, hitting both children before their grandmother could save them.

“My mom was waving and yelling for him to stop. She tried to grab my kids, but he was going too fast,” said their heartbroken mother, Samantha Jensen. “Scarlett died almost immediately, and my mom and Henry were badly hurt.”

The driver sped away, leaving their family devastated. Police later caught him, and he was sentenced to ten years in prison for the crash.

Injuries That Changed Their Lives

Henry was badly hurt, suffering a broken spine and ribs, while his grandmother had several broken bones.

“Henry was in the ICU for a week before he was well enough to go home,” Samantha said. “Every moment felt endless.”

Even with the heartbreak and loss, Samantha found some comfort in the weeks after the tragedy—a photo taken just before the accident.

A Precious Last Memory
While looking through her mother’s pictures from that day, Samantha found one final photo of Scarlett, capturing a quiet, happy moment before everything changed.

“I’m so grateful to have that photo,” Samantha said. “It shows her last moments as peaceful. In that picture, she was safe, happy, and loved. That’s how I want to remember her.”

As the Jensen family continues to heal, they keep Scarlett’s memory alive through pictures, stories, and the love she left behind—a reminder of how precious life is.
